About TSA
The Tallahassee Soccer Association (TSA) is an adult recreational league affiliated with the Florida State Soccer Association and the United States Amateur Soccer Association. TSA provides year-round opportunities for members to play soccer in a social setting. As a recreational league, the competitive aspects of the game are secondary in importance to the recreational and social aspects. Membership is open to men and women who are 18 years of age or older. To join, you simply need to submit a membership form and pay the appropriate dues. A membership form with a fee schedule can be found on our website or can be obtained from any Board Member at a TSA sponsored event. Membership dues are good through August 31st of each year and must be renewed on an annual basis.
TSA offers two types of soccer play for members: league play and pickup games.
League Games
We offer five seasons of league games during a year.
League games have referees and assigned teams (i.e., individuals play on the same team throughout the season). Season schedules are posted on our website. The deadline to sign up for a season is generally two to three weeks prior to the start of the season. Information on registration deadlines is posted on the website as the deadline approaches.
Team rosters are established after the registration deadline by a committee appointed by the Board (typically made up of those who have volunteered to captain a team). The establishment of team rosters is guided by a principle of competitive balance. No one team or teams should dominate or be dominated by other teams. The committee will take into account requests from members to play with specified other members as long as the competitiveness of the teams and the recreational aspect of TSA are not affected.
Pickup Games
Pickup games are unsanctioned games with no referees that are scheduled at least once a week year round. Interested players simply show up, split into teams and play. Pickup is for members only, however, we do allow non-members to come out and give it a try before joining. Prior to playing, non-members must sign a liability waiver that can be obtained from any Board Member present and, if they wish to continue to play pickup, will need to join the Association.
Pickup games are generally on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the Spring, Summer, and Fall at the Meadows Soccer Complex. In the Winter, we typically move to Tom Brown Parkfor either Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday pickups depending on field availability. We also have Sunday pickups on holidays, during the summer season, and between seasons. Exact dates and times for pickup can be found on our website's calendar.
Please bring a white and a dark (preferably blue) shirt to all pickup games. Please, no gray shirts or shirts with white stripes.
Basic TSA Philosophy and Rules of Play
The Tallahassee Soccer Association (TSA) is an adult recreational league that provides the opportunity to play soccer year-round in a social, positive, fun, and safe learning environment. TSA promotes and emphasizes cooperation, fair play, mutual respect between players, fans, and families, and a love of the game over competition and winning. The competitive aspects of the game are secondary to the recreational and social aspects as well as to player safety. Excessively hard tackles, dangerous play, and unsportsmanlike behavior are all violations of this philosophy. Flagrant or repeated violations may result in disciplinary action (such as suspension or expulsion from the league).
Some specific rules of play to know:
- Slide tackles are not allowed
- All players must wear shinguards during all TSA play (league or pickup games)
- The Goalkeeper shall not be touched or harassed while in possession of the ball within the penalty area.
Keep in mind that this is not a "Team League." As part of our recreational approach, TSA attempts to balance teams so that no one team or teams dominates or is dominated by other teams. We also encourage individuals to play with different groups from season to season so they may get to know different members and play with and against a wide range of members.
Players are expected to adhere to this philosophy during all TSA sanctioned play.
A full set of TSA's rules of play can be found in our bylaws.
Other Benefits
TSA members receive regular newsletters and, if desired, e-mail updates regarding TSA events. Members who have not registered for season play may also play in league games (provided space is available) for $5 per game. Members are entitled to participate in any social event funded by the association (such as the Annual Meeting or occasional Bar-B-Q/Pickup).
Also, as a sanctioned member of the FSSA, TSA members do not have to pay an additional sanctioning fee when playing in USSF sanctioned tournaments.
